"Who the Hell is Bobby Roos?"
wins coveted "New American Cinema Award" at Seattle International
Film Festival on the occasion of its World Premiere.
(June 16, 2002) Competing against an extraordinary lineup
of US and World Premieres, John Feldman's "Who the Hell is Bobby
Roos?" was awarded the "New American Cinema Award" at the
28th Seattle International Film Festival. A jury of critics and industry
professionals selected the film as "best representing filmmaking
excellence and creative vision" and praised the film "for creating
a nervy intimate portrait of a very solitary artist while simultaneously
finding a metaphor for the culture at large."
Jurors:
John Anderson - Critic, New York Newsday (USA)
Alan Franey - Director, Vancouver International Film Festival (Canada)
Sydney Levine - Director, Film Finders International (USA)
Conceived and produced by John Feldman and Roger Kabler, with music by
Sheila Silver, the film tells the story of a brilliant celebrity impressionist
who loses his own identity among the famous personalities he portrays.
As he struggles to find love and form relationships with real people he
slips towards madness and despair, but ultimately Bobby Roos finds a way
to deal with the world as himself. This "nearly" true story
is drawn from the experiences of Roger Kabler, who plays Bobby Roos, delivering
a drama which is an unsettling mix of entertainment and hard emotional
truth.
The Seattle International Film Festival says:
"this raw, mesmerizing film is a tour de force for an amazing
actor-impressionist"
"Who the Hell is Bobby Roos?" is John Feldmans
third feature film following "Alligator Eyes" (also starring
Roger Kabler) which won a First Prize at the San Sebastian International
Film Festival, and "Dead Funny" starring Elizabeth Pena and
Andrew McCarthy.
